WABI-SABI Watercolor Workshop-Class at Sunbear Studios

  • Sunbear Studios & Gallery 22 West Main Street Westerville, Ohio, 43082 USA (map)

Instructor: Charles Rowland
Fee: $75
Supplies: Students should bring whatever supplies they normally use

Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese term that loosely translates to “celebration of the imperfect”. Too often we see imperfections in the subject as something to be fixed, thereby losing some of the character of the subject we are painting. We might correct the sag in the roof of the building, repair that broken picket in the fence or remove those unsightly power lines from our painting.

In this workshop we will learn how to use those imperfections as a rich part of the story we want to tell about the subject. We’ll learn how to emphasize or even exaggerate them to maximize the emotional impact of our work.

Instruction will include a demonstration painting and individual instruction as each student paints their own “Wabi-Sabi Masterpiece”! If you’ve been thinking “I need to loosen up”, this is the workshop for you!

The instructor will have reference photos and students may bring their own references if desired.
