The August calendar is loaded with opportunities to experience the arts in Westerville. Admire exhibits of watercolors and fiber art; jam with a fingerstyle guitarist; eat lunch outdoors to the sound of live music; enjoy painting and wine; audition for a play, get tips on songwriting, poetry or storytelling; and spend a day listening to jazz performances.  Check out the listings below.

Aug. 2 & 5 – Curtain Players Script Review and Audition:  “Arsenic and Old Lace” by Joseph Kesselring. Script Review, Aug. 2, 6:30 p.m.  Auditions, Aug. 5, 7 p.m.  Registration opens at 6:30 p.m.  In this enduring comedy, two sweet aunts cheerfully poison elderly men with elderberry wine. Aug. 7 – Sip & Sketch, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  “Summer Nights”  Inspired by the Aurora Borealis, participants will paint images of the summer night sky using acrylics on canvas. Aug. 19 – Sounds of Summer Concert. 6:30 p.m.  Westerville Symphony celebrates the music of Leonard Bernstein by marking the centennial of his birth. Aug. 21 -- Lunchbox Concert: Oldies and Harmonies by Caroline and Dad, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Free. Hosted by Westerville Parks and Rec, the Arts Council of Westerville and Uptown Inc.  Civic Green at City Hall Courtyard.

Aug. 21 -- Poetry Discussion and Open Mic. 7 to 9 p.m. Share your work with the Westerville Poetry Group and discover ways others are writing and publishing poetry. Optional open mic. Everyone welcome. Westerville Public Library, 126 S. State St.

Aug. 22 – Sip & Sketch, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  “Bountiful Bouquets.”  Painters will use acrylics on canvas to create bouquets of their favorite flowers or be inspired by ones they’ve received in the past. Aug. 24 – Arts Alley at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s 4th Friday. 6 to 9 p.m. Hands-on art activities for children. Westerville Art League members will offer original art work, prints, photography, cards, fused and stained glass and jewelry. Aug. 25 – Auditions for “Uptown Scrooge,” 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Performers are sought for this high energy walking tour adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” performed on the street and in the businesses of Uptown Westerville.
