Artists and anyone who loves the arts can join the Arts Council of Westerville in a look at the past, present and future of the arts in our community by attending the Celebrate the Arts! Reception on Friday, February 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. The third annual ACW award for “Supporter of the Arts in Westerville” will be presented and the winner of the 2018 ACW Arts Education Grant will be announced. Unique Concert for Children

A Children’s Concert by the Westerville Concert Band planned for Sunday, February 18, at 4 p.m., will offer families a unique and entertaining experience. Music and the visual arts will combine on stage as central Ohio artist Said Oladejo Lawal creates a painting on stage while the band performs. Children in the audience will be invited to participate with their own artistic creations. A hands-on instrument “petting zoo” sponsored by the Music & Arts store will provided, along with a display of art by the Arts Council of Westerville for viewing enjoyment and purchase. Admission and parking are free. The performance will be held at Westerville Central High School auditorium, 7118 Mt. Royal.

Writing Contest Deadline

Writers of all ages and genres are reminded to submit their entries to the 12th annual Celebrate the Arts Writing Contest by the Thursday, March 1 deadline. For contest guidelines, visit www.artscouncilofwesterville.com

Through May 6 – “Stories from Life: A Sufi-Inspired Journey of Past and Present.” Reception: Thursday, Jan 25, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Originally from Sudan, Columbus-based artist Mohmed Hamid presents paintings combining traditional motifs, scripts, architectural forms, and patterns to create vivid landscapes and cityscapes. Feb. 4 -- Guest Artists: Patchwork, 2 p.m. Noa Even and Stephen Klunk formed Patchwork, a Cleveland-based saxophone and drum set duo that collaborates with composers to build an eclectic body of new music. Otterbein University, Battelle Fine Arts Center, Riley Auditorium, 170 W. Park St.
